A Holistic and Integrative Approach to Grief & Trauma Therapy In Ontario

In my early professional years I was asking the question: How can I treat, or cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for their own personal growth?
— Carl Rogers

Person Centered Approach

An empathetic, compassionate, and authentic connection

Person-centered therapy connects therapists and clients through a common humanity. In therapy a space of empathy, genuine regard, and unconditional understanding are expressed for the client, building a non-judgemental space so that the client can pave their own path to self-awareness and self-growth.

  • A lens that understands each human through their subjective experience

A person-centered therapy model views the client has the expert of their own life. As part of a humanistic approach, there is a foundational belief that people carry an innate potential and drive for growth. The therapist holds a supportive space through empathy, acceptance, and authenticity.

  • An approach rooted in empathy

    • Client knows best about their life, needs, and hopes

    • Everyone is naturally driven to move towards personal growth (self-actualization)

    • Therapist provides empathy, genuine expression, and acceptance

    • A session follows the client's lead, where the therapist brings in techiniques and interventions based on the clients needs and consent

    • The goal of person centered therapy is to provide a supportive space where the client feels cared for and has autonomy, creating opportunity for self-understanding and growth.

Life is never made unbearable by circumstances, but only by lack of meaning and purpose.

Existential Therapy

A philosophical approach to self-understanding

Existential therapy explores topics around existence within the world. In therapy, emotions around death, freedom, isolation, meaninglessness, and responsibility are explored. Client's are provided a space of reflection to deepen their understanding of themselves in relation to the world that surrounds them and the within the human condition.

So much of what we experience doesn’t reach conscious awareness, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there. That doesn’t mean it isn’t affecting.
— David Grand, Founder of Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a mind-body therapeutic technique that uses particular eye positions, known as brainspots, to access the part of the brain that holds emotions (distressing, creative, intuitive, or trauma-related emotions) to move them through the body using somatic awareness leading to release of difficult emotions or enhanced expression of positive emotions (depending on what Brainspotting is used for).

Depth Psychology

Where the unconscious meets the conscious

Depth psychology focuses on brining unconscious material into conscious so that it can be integrated to move towards wholeness. Therapy can include shadow work, dream work, connecting with parts of self that one is unconscious of, and increasing self-awareness through self-realization.

Transpersonal Psychology

Connection with higher self

A transpersonal approach involves exploring spirtual aspects for holistic healing by discovering a deeper meaning in existence and how one relates to existence. Therapy can include mindfulness work, meaning and purpose observation, belief and values analysis, dream analysis, and observing paths to self-growth.

Integrative and Eclectic

A creative approach to therapy

Therapy applies an integrative and holistic belief that values an emphasis on the whole-person, mind, body, and soul healing. Therapy occurs in a space of co-creation, where client and therapist work together to support the client in developing integration between all parts. The approach is creative in essence because it uniquely tailored for each client.
